"Swinter" Recipes!


The winter can lead us to result into very terrible and unhealthy dietary habits that we honestly can't control.  The best things to keep in mind is it's okay to eat what you like and it's okay to be happy and healthy.  Once you have those two key tips in mind, you should move onto phase two and realize that  it isn't about the amount of calories you're consuming but about the amount of food itself you're consuming.  Once you have that in mind you can begin to try some of these great and "somewhat" healthy recipes!  (Hey!  Everyone needs a little sweetness in there lives!)

Homemade Smoothie Bowl

You'll Need
  • A liquid base of your choice like coconut water/any water of your preference or almond milk/any milk of your preference.  I personally prefer almond milk.  (I cup of liquid base) 
  • A protein substitute like Chia Seeds (high in protein and fiber) or Hemp Seeds (contain two essential fatty acids being Linoleic (Omega-6) & Alpha-Linoleic (Omega-3) Acids. I personally prefer Chia Seeds.  (I tablespoon of protein substitute) 
  •  A key component being like Spinach (key vitamins and minerals), Kale (key antioxidants), or Acai (known for being good brain food).  I personally prefer Acai. (I cup of key component) 
  • A solid fruit topping where the combinations are unlimited.  I personally prefer to do mango, pineapple, strawberry, starfruit, and banana.  (1/4 a cup of each solid fruit topping) 
  • A drizzle which is what ties everything together like honey, agave, or nutella.  I always prefer nutella.  

How to Make 
  1. Blend your liquid base, protein substitute, and key component.  A great blender that I have been using lately is the Black and Decker Infuser 3 in 1.  It is only $50 and works great, and my favorite part about it it the blender base itself acts as a pitcher for fridge storage purposes and on the controls it has an actual smoothie blending option.  
  2. Place all the blended components into a bowl and begin taking your solid fruit toppings and placing them on top of the smoothie.  
  3. Drizzle on top of the whole creation. 
  4. Enjoy!  


Chicken Balsamic Stir Fry Salad 

You'll Need 
  • Romaine lettuce (One Heart) 
  • Cherry tomatoes (1 Cup) 
  • Red, yellow, and orange bell peppers (1 pepper of each color)
  • Spanish onion (1 whole onion) 
  • Chicken breasts (2 Cups shredded) 
  • Balsamic vinegar (1/4 Cup 
  • Butter (2 tablespoons) 
  • Lemon (1 whole lemon) 
  • Vegetable Oil (3 tablespoons) 
  • Garlic Seasoning (1 teaspoon)
  • Onion Powder (I teaspoon)
  • Parsley (1 teaspoon) 
  • Salt and Pepper (1 teaspoon together)
How to Make 
  1. Dice the romaine lettuce heart into bite sized pieces and place it into a salad bowl. 
  2. With a large frying pan place it to medium heat and allow it to heat up first and then place the balsamic vinegar, vegetable oil, butter, garlic seasoning, onion powder, parsley, salt and pepper, and the lemon sliced thinly into to marinate the pan.  
  3. Lay the chicken in the pan and allow it to cook to the point to where you are able to shred it in the pan.  A great pot and pans set I've been using is from Buzzfeed's Tasty Collection which is sold online for about $100.  A key sign of telling a chicken is fully cooked is when there is no pink and it is fully white inside and out.  
  4. With the chicken now shredded in the marinated pan, place all your diced fruit and vegetables inside the pan and allow for them to reach a fully cooked state.   
  5. Once all the chicken and fruits and vegetables are cooked, cover them with a lid on low heat and allow for them to fully absorb all the moisture for about a minute.  
  6. Separate the chicken, fruit, and vegetables from the marinate using a strainer and place the marinate in a container for later use as your dressing for the salad.  
  7. Place the chicken. fruit, and vegetables on top of the romaine lettuce and toss them gently together.  
  8. Place portions into serving bowls and use the marinate as a dressing as desired.
  9. Enjoy!
